Dirck T. Schou, Jr., Taqtile Co-founder – It was a historic weekend at The Player’s Championship, the annual ‘5th’ major held annually at the PGA Tour’s home golf course, Sawgrass. Last year, Rickie Fowler bulled his way to the win, finishing in dramatic, record fashion. This year the golf course won, at least if you listen to the players, even though the world’s #1-ranked player took home the trophy, winning wire-to-wire. None of that makes history, however — at least from a pioneering standpoint. What did make history at this year’s TPC? The introduction of Microsoft’s HoloLens to the golfing world.
The PGA Tour’s ‘TPC at Sawgrass HoloLens user experience’ was built for the HoloLens by Taqtile and presents a three dimensional model of the hole, along with data from the players and golf course. Potential users include the PGA Tour’s scoring and rules officials, operations staff and course set-up teams. Additionally, PGA Tour players can benefit from reviewing their historical performances via shot patterns from previous rounds, and review those with their coaches, etc., in a collaborative environment with multiple HoloLenses. And as the project evolves, fans will eventually benefit too, from a first-person VIP streaming experience.
